HOW DO I JOIN TEAM LIVE MOORE?
Simple! Follow these easy steps and join Team Live Moore Saturday, August 4, 2018 at Mount Tabor Park in Portland, Oregon.
- Go to: www.coloncancercoalition.org/portland
- Click "Register" and choose "Join Existing Team."
- Search your team "Team Live Moore" and it will pop up. (Registration for each individual participant is required)
- Complete registration and then BOOM! you're on Team Live Moore!!!
WHY JOIN OUR TEAM?
We are running/walking in honor of Matt Moore! Matt being diagnosed with stage iv colon cancer at the age of 32 years old was not on our family's agenda. Guess what.. it never is!!! Therefore, not only do we want to increase education on colon cancer, we want to increase early detection to help save lives----the ultimate #livemoorechallenge!
DID YOU KNOW...
*1 in 20 people will be diagnosed with colon cancer in their lifetime?
**If colon cancer is detected in the early stages the five year survival rate is 90%!!! <--- THAT'S A BIG DEAL FRIENDS!!!!
Why you might ask:
While... although the rates of colon cancer in people 50 years and older are declining, the rates of colon cancer diagnosis in people 50 years and UNDER are increasing! In fact, 1 in 10 colon cancer diagnoses are in people UNDER 50 years old. Additionally, these early age colon cancer diagnoses are more likely to be in the harder to treat stages III or IV. It was completely unexpected to learn Matt was diagnosed with colon cancer; however, finding out that the cancer spread from the colon to the liver resulting in a stage iv diagnosis was shocking! We literally knew nothing about colon cancer before all this! Therefore, it is critical to increase colon cancer awareness and increase screenings to SAVE LIVES!!! WHEN YOU JOIN OUR TEAM AND PARTICIPATE IN THE GET YOUR REAR IN GEAR EVENT:
You help to educate our community AND raise money for screenings to increase early detection of colon cancer!!! The funds raised at the Portland race go to Oregon Health & Science University Foundation (OHSU). The Colon Cancer Awareness and Patient Assistance Project funded by money raised at Get Your Rear in Gear – Portland aims to promote and improve early detection through increasing awareness and breaking down barriers for underserved patients. This program will provide financial assistance for screening and other costs associated with colon cancer screening procedures and treatments. YOUR support will make a difference in fighting this disease!
